Proposals revealed for Oslo’s New Government Quarter

For the new government quarter in the heart of Oslo, six proposals have been presented. Three are by Norwegian practices: Asplan Viak, Snøhetta, and White. The rest are by the Danish firm BIG, the Dutch office MVRDV, and the Norwegian-Danish consortium LPO + Arkitekt Kristine Jensens Tegnestue + Norconsult. Selected out of 24 participants in December, these six teams have now contributed possible urban solutions for the zoning of the metropolitan area where the new seat of government is to be relocated. It establishes the heights of buildings and how traffic and security are to be integrated. The open process is not intended to come up with a winner, but to generate solutions that could be combined in the design of a single global concept, which would then be subjected to public consultation in 2016.
