The Beijing office led by Ma Yansong, MAD, has released its preliminary design for the museum of the American film director George Lucas. Crowned with a ‘floating’ disc over an observation deck offering panoramic views of the city of Chicago and Lake Michigan, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (LMNA) will contain four levels connected in loops, and present a history of the moving image through the collection of the creator of Star Wars. The undulating building, rendered in white stone, blends with the landscape, designed by the local firm Studio Gang, with a new bridge connecting with the nearby peninsula of Northerly Island.
