Competition for Expo 2017 in Astana (Kazakhstan)

Two years after Expo 2015 in Milan, Expo 2017 is to open in Astana under the motto ‘Energy for the Future’. The capital of Kazakhstan will in the summer months host the great international event, and has announced a competition to find a team to organize the 173-hectare grounds reserved for the universal exposition. The winner will receive a reward of US$150,000. Among the 45 practices from 20 countries that have submitted designs are Zaha Hadid, Snøhetta, UNStudio, Mecanoo, gmp Architekten, Jürgen Mayer, Coop Himmelb(l)au, EMBT (Enric Miralles, Benedetta Tagliabue), Massimiliano y Doriana Fuksas, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, Stefano Boeri, Moshe Safdie, HOK, Pei-Zhu y Arata Isozaki.
