Rafael Moneo + Canals Moneo Arquitectos, expansion of Ribas winery in Consell

Located in the municipality of Consell, Bodegues Ribas is the oldest winery on the island of Majorca, founded in 1711. Listed in the town's Historical Heritage Catalog, the complex includes winemaking installations, a stately house, and the vineyard. The 800-square-meter addition carried out by Rafael Moneo, Clara Matilde Moneo, and Valerio Canals rearranges the premises on a 1,800-square-meter tract of land, and is determined by a buildability ruling of 400 square meters above ground.

The extension is on top of a preexisting construction. It closes up the space, forming a courtyard, and contains a visitor reception, halls for casks and wine tasting, a storeroom, the bottling area, and part of the wine production plant. The new shed's gabled roof is clad in Arabian tiles. Recovering traditional masonry techniques, the exterior echoes the other buildings.

The interiors present surfaces of unfaced white concrete but feature wooden claddings, colorful handcrafted tiling, and Binissalem marble floor slabs. The completely buried barrel halls are executed with reinforced concrete.
