Working out of offices in Zurich, Berlin, and Brussels, the firm EM2N -- headed by Mathias Müller and Daniel Niggli – has designed three independent volumes that form the shared open-air space of new sport facilities for the city of Winterthur. Construction is planned in two phases. The first one will include: a covered court for team sports like volleyball and hockey, with room for 2,000 spectators, over an underground garage for 125 cars; and a five-story building for various sport-related functions (medical center, gym, classrooms) to be accessed from a central staircase. Phase two will involve a multisport training pavilion. The complex is visually unified by the white metal panels of the facades.
