Sga-studio, Taksila Roots primary school in Akbarpur (India)

The architect Shaily Gupta, founder of the Indian firm sga-studio, has designed a primary school for Akbarpur, a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, in the north of India. The building presents a series of blocks with structures of concrete, freestanding around a main courtyard and joined together by a large roof on top of which play activities are held. The classrooms with walls of exposed brick alternate with corridors and open courts, which are also treated as educational spaces. The objective of these construction solutions is to ensure the interiors a good degree of hygrothermal comfort. Games, puzles, and theorems are integrated into the walls and floors to arouse the pupils’ interest and creativity.
