The Palma de Mallorca firm headed by Jaume Mayol and Irene Pérez, Ted’A arquitectes, designed this school for Orsonnens, a small locality in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, 50 kilometers from Bern. First-prize winner in a competition held in 2014, the project draws inspiration from the typology of the area’s traditional farmhouses, characterized on the outside by compact neutral volumes, and inside by structural clarity.Containing 2,450 square meters of space, the wooden construction sits on a stone plinth and is crowned by a hipped roof. Multiplying visual relationships, the education program is organized around a central void that simultaneously acts as a circulation axis and as a gathering place for students.
