The Barcelona practice of Jordi Badia (BAAS) has built the Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia, in the Polish city of Katowice, in collaboration with the local firms Grupa 5 Architekci and Maleccy Biuro Projectowe. Their proposal won the 2011 competition by virtue of its “spatial and design solutions based on good internal connections and open spaces.” Strong on recycling, the project took advantage of a preexisting construction in disuse and due for demolition, raising an abstract volume over it that is generated by a ceramic openwork. Inside is a low volume with a central courtyard that is the main feature of the intervention.
