House in the Gorafe Desert (Granada)

The Slovenian firm OFIS – headed by Rok Oman and Spela Videcnik— designed this glazed pavilion in collaboration with experts of the manufacturer Guardian Glass. The purpose was to demonstrate the technical capacity of its highly insulated Guardian SunGuard, a product with a protective coating that enables it to filter sunlight, avoid overheating, and ensure indoor comfort. The thermal challenge is linked to the structural one through three-layered glass walls that can withstand strong winds. Clad with mirror panels that reflect the surroundings, the wooden roof incorporates tracks for curtains to hang from and stretches out to create a shaded platform around the glass walls that give spectacular views. The 20-square-meter holiday rental is organized in three arms containing a living room, a bedroom, and a jacuzzi area independently. A central core contains services including a toilet, storage for the bedroom, and a kitchenette next to the living space. The house also features photovoltaic solar plaques and a system for filtering water.
