This interdepartmental building of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), on its campus in Palma de Mallorca, is conceived as an efficient container of teaching spaces, with classrooms and laboratories. A compact floor plan, a systematized envelope, and energy efficiency are key elements of the environmental plan, which features an effective system for producing energy and a rigorous control of energy losses, all based on the standardization and composition of the facade.

Encompassing an area of 6,455 square meters and built on a budget of 5.783.026 euros, the volume breaks up at the corner, forming an entrance in the manner of a porch. The continuous lattices ensure that a lot of natural light comes in. Along its course, the large central corridor, intended as a place for encounters, incorporates two voids that bathe the interior in light. To ensure that the building functions optimally, the layout of the program stratifies uses by levels, in such a way that the flow of people decreases the higher one goes.
